         August 23, 2008

Hi there – Greetings from “the cabin” –

You are receiving this because either I don’t have an email address for you (thus you don’t receive the email newsletters and sale notices I send out) or because the email address I have for you is wrong and your email messages “bounce” back to me.

In any case, here is a run-down of some of the exciting things happening here at the store:

1) We’ve received over 100 bolts of new fabrics in the last 2 weeks, including some beautiful flannels and batiks.  We’ve had deliveries of Moda, Marcus Brothers, Maywood, Clothworks, Northcott, Timeless Treasures, and more.  Plus – I know there are 3 more shipments on the way.  Wow!

2) We’re having a huge sale going on now through the end of the month.  We couldn’t decide on exactly what to call it, so we’ve decided it’s the “End-of-Summer/Back-to-School/Labor Day” Sale.  Everything in the store is on sale – 20%, 30%, 40%, and 50% off.  And we’re offering our Friday Fat Quarter Frenzy every day during the sale.  Our normal price on FQs is $2.50 – Frenzy price is: Buy 10, get 5 FREE – that takes them to $1.67 each.  Now that’s a deal - !!!  And it includes flannels and batiks, too.

3) We’re holding our First Annual Yard Sale at the Cabin on Saturday and Sunday, August 30th and 31st.  It will be outside in the parking lot.  (we have a few awnings to lend)  We’re inviting everyone to take part.  If you’d like to be a “Seller” and get rid of some of your “stuff”, just let me know.  It costs $5 for a space and you can sell anything quilting or craft related.  That means anything hand-made or any parts/supplies to be used for anything hand-made;  like old UFO’s, old books, patterns, magazines, scraps, notions, sewing machines, whatever – as long as it’s quilt or craft related.  Just no toasters, lawn mowers, or bar-b-ques – Ok?!

And if you don’t want to sell, but want to take advantage of some good deals, come on up and be a “Buyer”.  You’re sure to find some great bargains.  You know the old saying, “one man’s junk is another man’s treasure”.  I already know we’re going to have some great “treasures” in this array.

4) Classes – we’ve got lots of classes coming up.  Noma Hegseth will be back again, teaching her beautiful hand-appliqué work; Goldie has several more classes scheduled, including her Bargello-in-the-Round and her beautiful paper-pieced Twilight Star.  Linda Ballard will be here this week teaching her Fractured Crystals and will hopefully agree to do some more classes in the fall.  Marty Beyer will be here next month teaching the Lone Star quilt.  Halli Keller is scheduled to teach the Flip and Sew Bargello class next month and will have her Hidden Wells on the calendar soon.  Amy Siebert will be teaching a fabulous method for making the Drunkard’s Path, which she calls Courageous Curves.  This one requires no pinning and no clipping of the curves.  It’s really quite amazing and very versatile.  And, of course, Jill Schumacher is scheduled to do another series of machine quilting classes, including her brand new Sashiko Sampler.  Talk about amazing - You really need to see this!

5) The Shingletown Quilt Show this year will be on Saturday, October 11th from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Black Butte Elementary School, 7752 Ponderosa Way, Shingletown.  Lynn Wilen is our Featured Quilter.  The theme for this year’s show is “Wildlife in the Pines” and it promises to be a great show.  I have entry forms at the store for anyone interested in displaying quilts at the show.  Give me a call and let me know how many you would like to submit and I’ll send you the forms right away.  Or, you can use that as your excuse to come into the shop and pick them up!  We need the completed forms back by Wednesday, October 1st, and the quilts must be delivered to the committee at the shop on Wednesday, October 8th, between 10:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. in order to be included in the show.

This is not a juried show – it is just for sharing the love of quilting and for FUN!  Everyone is invited to attend the show and also encouraged to submit as many quilts as you would like to share that day.  Call the shop for more information.

6) The 7th Annual Weaverville quilt show, Autumn in the Alps, will be held on Saturday, October
4th, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. outside in the Historic District of Weaverville.  You’ll see quilts hung over balconies, along storefronts, draped over fences and railings for 1/4 mile.  This will be my first time at being a vendor at a quilt show, so it should prove interesting and educational – and of course, FUN!

 Under General Shop News:
We’ve done a little re-arranging in the store lately.  God Bless my wonderful husband, Tom (“TJ”) for all his hard work and support.  He’s always so willing to do whatever is needed around here, from hanging quilts, to building new shelves or re-arranging old ones.  As a matter of fact, right now, as I sit here typing this, he is in the other room, sewing up a store sample for a new kit we’re putting together.  Yep – he’s actually drawn up the pattern, cut the fabric, and is sitting at the sewing machine, sewing it together.  He’s been taking some quilting classes lately from an absolutely fabulous quilt teacher (if I do say so myself – tee hee) and now he’s putting what he’s learned to work making the actual samples.  What a guy!

And of course Kathy continues to add her talents and charm to everything around us.  I don’t know what we’d do without her.  She and I have such fun together and keep finding more and more in common.  I’m convinced we may in fact have been sisters, separated at birth and re-united when I bought the shop.

Well, I guess that’s about it for now.  If I’ve left anything out I apologize.  As always, I look forward to
seeing each and every one of you and thank you again for all your support.  We truly do appreciate it.

Much love,

    “JJ”
P.S.  Got some surprises coming up but I can’t spill the beans just yet.  OOOOOhhhhh!
